Many people have asked me lately how I balance all the demands of my life. I usually just giggle and answer with “Jesus and Coffee!” but I don't think those people take me very seriously when I say that. Too, I'm starting to think that maybe a lot of people don't believe or don't understand the true power we possess in Christ Jesus. The power spoken about so often in scripture and in song. As Jeremy Camp has repeated many times in his song, “The same power that rose Jesus from the grave, the same power that commands the dead to wake, lives in us, lives in us. The same power that moves mountains when He speaks. The same power that can calm the raging seas, lives in us, lives in us.” I've sang it many times, and I'm sure some of you have too, but do we truly believe it?

This is where faith meets performance, or the rubber meets the road, whatever.

Do you believe in the power that Christ provides in us? Do you believe that if He has called you to a life that glorifies Him, that He will provide all that you need? Do you believe that He can truly produce the power within you to complete the impossible task you see ahead?

I do, now.

Almost a year ago, I felt the call of God leading me to something in my future that seemed very much impossible, and quite honestly very tiring. We are all called to different things according to our purpose and talents He has given us. I love my purpose and I love my talent, but I honestly thought there was no way I could handle what God had placed on my heart.

I truly believe that when you offer your life to Christ, when you abide, when you spread the Gospel and live for Him and only Him, He will place desires in your heart that we can call our dreams. AND what's also amazing, He makes them absolutely possible, despite what we may think. I feel like over this past year, my main phrase in life has been, “God is crazy!”

Now, let's fast forward a little bit to about a year after I felt the call to craziness. Let me give you a glimpse in the week of Sarah at this point.

Take my daughter to school at 7:00am
High School teacher 8am-4pm

Leave for New Orleans for practice at 4:30pm (It's an hour and a half drive, at the least)

Drive home. Go to bed about midnight.

Wednesday:
Same 7:00am – 4:00pm
Pick up my daughter from dance at 4:30
Eat dinner, head to church

Leave for New Orleans for practice at 4:30pm…

… you get the picture.

I was literally exhausted just typing that, and it's not even everything – just the highlights. Maybe you can understand why people are asking me how I do this, how I handle the chaos, how I balance this crazy busy single mom, high school teacher, ministry leader, NFL cheerleader life. If you're wondering the same, here's my answer…. prayer.

This world we live in is much more spiritual than it is physical. There is so much going on that we cannot see BUT God can, and honestly, I'm thankful for that. When we accept Christ into our hearts, feel His grace and love, we can't help but want to dedicate our life to Him. When I did this and let go of all control, God did some miraculous things in my life… giving me full confidence in who I am and an amazing amount of energy to do what He has called me to do, to conquer my mission fields.

I want you to be able to experience this power within you as well. I want you to know and feel this faith that I have in Jesus and to know that whatever desire He has placed in your heart, it is TOTALLY DOABLE! You don't have to worry, you can balance everything God has called you to do. That being said, here are 5 awesome ways to enhance your prayer life and to build your relationship with our best friend and provider, Jesus!

Number 1! First things first, the Word says, we need to dedicate our lives to Christ, EVERY SINGLE MORNING! Not just at church on Sunday's, not when times are hard, not when we suddenly remember to, but every morning before our feet hit the floor! The battles we face are new every day, so our first thoughts should be to give God the control of our life. If you need to set an alarm, DO IT! But, after you push snooze or actually turn off the alarm, lay in the bed, or roll over to your knees and pray a prayer, you can even use this one: “Heavenly Father, it's a new day, thank you for letting me take in your breath and see the sun shine again. Today, I dedicate my life to you, you are in control of this day, not me, and I pray that the life you have planned for me today brings you glory.” This simple and powerful prayer will change your days, every day!

Number 2! ALWAYS have a quiet time. A-L-W-A-Y-S. I love you, I know life is hard, it's exhausting, it's busy… but I'm going to be straight with you, because I had to be straight with myself… this “I don't have time” excuse… it's not okay. It's not. Put the phone down, cut something out of your day and specifically schedule in your Jesus time. I don't know what you need to do to create time, but you need to spend time in the breathing, filling Word of God every day. Months ago, I began this notion: I'd rather be late then not spend time with my Creator. It changed my life. Since I began that thought in the mornings, I've never been late for work, I've never missed a graduate school paper deadline, nothing. God honors our time with Him and when you put Him first you'll find you have more time in your day that you thought. Trust me!!!

Number 3! This one is one of my favorites 🙂 I love the movie “War Room.” If you haven't seen it, it's a must! Changed my prayer life. In the movie they encourage a prayer room – like a closet or corner of a room that is free from distraction and can be filled with your personal prayers. It's a great idea! However, my house is pretty tiny and there is no extra closet or corner space. So instead, I hit up my local Dollar General and grabbed a display board (the ones used for reading or science fairs). My daughter and I painted our boards and then began writing scriptures that we felt were important at our season of life. For example, scripture for temptations, for protection, about faith, about our futures, any and all the scriptures! I also printed pictures of people that I want to pray for daily.I write specific prayers and tape them on the board often and EVERY SINGLE NIGHT I'm on my knees in front of my prayer board, talking to Jesus, reading and praying scripture. Y'all, it will change your life.

Number 4! Prayer journals are so stinkin' awesome. The best part about a prayer journal is you get to go back and see what you prayed for and see the Lord's faithfulness through it!!! It can be whatever you want, your blessings, your requests, specific prayers about things that are happening in your life now, etc. Sometimes I feel as though I could write for days, but know that's not always feasible. I have a sweet friend who gave me a tip once: you don't have to continue to write the same prayer every day. If you pray for something daily, say family or friends, you can devote a special page or two to them, write your prayer and scriptures, and just pray over those prayers nightly instead of rewriting them. Don't be stressed about writing prayers, remember, it's just a journal to Jesus! Say whatever you want! Even if you're mad, sad, stressed… girl write it. Jesus is the best listener!

Number 5! This is more of a challenge than a tip. In February, I was going through a rough patch. There were just some things I really wanted clarity on in my life. The best way to clear up confusion is to talk to God about it and ASK! I felt the call to devote myself to intentional prayer – 60 days of it to be exact. For 60 days, I planned to get on my knees before bed, and “ACTS” – Adore my Savior, Confess my sins, Thank Him for ALL of my many, many blessings, and ask Him to Supply for my needs.

These were my Jesus dates, my pre-scheduled, heart-felt, on my knees submissive, purposeful prayers. I'm on day like 210… I couldn't stop. I can't stop. I won't stop. These prayer dates changed my life. They restored my faith and my relationship with my Jesus. They gave me confidence because I knew during my day, no matter what happened, me and Jesus could talk about it that night when I got home. I began to see and understand the importance of prayer and started discovering the desires that God has given me. I truly challenge you to do this.

I encourage you to change your prayer life with any of these tips. To change your prayer life is to change your entire life. This life we live is not our own, it's in God's hands, it's His life and we are blessed and honored He chose us to live it for Him. He wants us to be His vessels! So, give Him the reigns and talk to Him all the time! Be in sync with Christ and your life will be filled.

Prayer is the answer to finding balance in the chaos of life.

Now, go pray girl!
